Sponsorship Proposal
Boarding For Breast Cancer (B4BC) and Hive Projects will be presenting a second annual winter snowboard film series in an effort to raise money for breast cancer research and education. The Gone ‘til November Film Series will debut this season’s newest snowboard films once a week throughout six consecutive weeks.
Gone ‘til November will target male and female snowboarders in the Lake Tahoe area who are key influencers among their peers. As a sponsor of the Gone ‘til November film series, you will have the opportunity to increase your brand visibility and recognition within a targeted group of youth consumers who are actively engaged in action sports and lifestyle interests.
For the Gone ‘til November Film Series, we are offering six levels of sponsorship opportunities – per film or the entire series – allowing you to pick the degree of involvement that will work best with your marketing efforts. Once you decide on a sponsorship level, we will work with you to ensure that you receive the most value for your investment.
Your generous contributions and donations to the Film Series will be supported with highly visible logo placement at the time of the event, brand announcements by the emcee, brand credits on all marketing and communication collateral and the option for a tent set-up during the event. In addition to brand and logo recognition, the Gone ‘til November Film Series will be raffling prizes from sponsors interested in generating a hands-on relationship with the audience. We would also be happy to discuss additional outreach campaigns that may directly benefit your business and its marketing efforts. It would be our pleasure to have your company attend the events as a VIP guest in exchange for charitable contributions or donations.
Thank you for your support and helping us spread the awareness and importance of health, early cancer detection and living a positive and active lifestyle.

Heather, heavier than anything I’ve got going on.
Posted by: | CommentsA couple weeks ago I came up to Tahoe to tie up some loose ends. I stayed with my friend Shannon who just moved into a new place with her longtime roomies. She was kind enough to offer me there guest bedroom while I was there. I only briefly met her roomates, Heather and Eric. Shannon had made them aware of my cancer.
Skip forward 3 weeks. I am back in Tahoe for the holiday weekend guest bartending at Sam’s Place, where I worked all winter. I’m staying with Shannon again, and tonight, my last night in town, Shannon, myself, Heather, and Eric decide to go out to dinner then to Bar24 to see the Supersuckers. The night was a disaster. everyone was drunk except for me, as I haven’t been drinking for about 8 months now. It works well because I can be the designated driver, and allow my friends to cut loose knowing they have a safe ride home. Tonight the drama between the roommates was unbelievable. Fighting yelling cursing, hugging, then more fighting yelling and cursing. The night ended with Heather and I relaxing in their small hottub, and I told her how grateful I was to have a place to set up camp in Tahoe as I have frequent business here. Then we got to talking about my cancer, and she told me that her grandmother in Huntington Beach has a “mystery” cancer just like mine. With all the same symptoms, ascites, lack of appetite, etc. Just like me, they poked and prodded, and tested, for a year with no diagnosis. Finally when they determined it was cancer, it was already at stage 4 (terminal). At 80, she is too old to undergo chemotherapy and radiation. She is no longer eating, and takes sips of water only to wet her dry mouth and throat for speaking. Heather told me that she has only 2 weeks left to live. I told Heather that if I was in her shoes, I would spend that 2 weeks with my grandmother, and family, and create as many good times, and fond memories as possible. Personally I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing that a loved, and loving member of my family would be gone for good in 14 days.
I asked why she isn’t down there. She said it has to do with financial reasons, rent, bills, etc. I’m sure in this economy, everyone can understand the tightening of the financial belts so to speak. I asked her how much the rent was, and she said $400.00. I just booked my ticket from Oakland to Orange County on jet blue for 120.00 to volunteer for Boarding for Breast cancer at the US Open of Surf. So I know that particular airfare is pretty reasonable.
Over the holiday weekend, I was lucky enough to get some work at Sam’s. I’m not sure how, but today I was able to deposit $900.00 in my account. Man that felt good. $100 of which is a donation directly from Sam’s Place to the Boarding for Breast Cancer Foundation. So anyway, that deposit, along with my social security that I’ll get on the 11th as well as contributions from my friends and blog readers(thank you so much!), currently has me feeling pretty good about my financial position. I don’t have a lot of cash, but enough get groceries, put gas in the car, and pay a good chunk of my credit card balance of $800.00. I would have some leftover to cover a sizeable portion of Heather’s rent along with the help of some of her friends, and family. I would feel so good sharing this money with her, and enabling her to make the most of her last days with her grandmother. I offered to book her ticket tomorrow before I left Tahoe, and to give her another $200.00 in a couple weeks, before her rent was due. At this time given her position, I feel this is a way better use of money than donating to some research foundation. It’s way more personal, and way more rewarding knowing that I (we) could contribute to the creation of a loving, positive, atmosphere for a human being’s last days on this earth, as well as giving Heather the gift of knowing that she can commit to those last days, relive fond memories of their past, and strengthen the bond between Grandmother, and Grand-daughter so that they can both be at peace when the inevitable does come about. I am interested in your thoughts, so please comment. Just the idea has me feeling like I’ll sleep well tonight.
The mental, and monetary support I’ve gotten from my blog readers and friends has been amazing, and the sharing incredible. If you’ve donated in the past, or plan to in the future, I hope you feel that situations like this deserve a portion of the contribution you decide to give. If your personal situation was similar to Heathers, I would absolutely offer the same opportunity to you if financially possible.
